Using Paint Samples To Match Color Shades

I love, love, LOVE paint samples! There are so many fun sorting, matching, and color activities that you can do with them. For this activity, I gathered two identical color sets of paint samples. I cut the colors apart on one of the sample sheets and glued each one to a clothespin. I gave Grace a bowl full of the colored clothespins and had her clip the clothespin to the color match on the paint sample cards. Grace really enjoyed matching the colors and she did such a great job. The colors are so similar so Grace worked very hard to match them. I also like that this is a fine motor exercise too. Grace and I then talked about the color shades and how they are similar but not the same. We also discussed the concept of a light and dark shades. Later this morning we all went for a walk and we had a great time finding all different shades of green.

Of course, every great artist knows all about shades and hues! What a special idea, Rebecca. I am fascinated with paint samples, too. I have always dreamed about a job naming the colors. I laughed out loud when I saw "Sassy Pink" (Grace!) and "Valentino" (Jack!)
Perfect for them!
I am so certain that Grace loved this activity. And HOW, I would have loved watching and hearing all the language that went along with this.
Love to Val & Sassy!,

Oh, my! What a task, what fine skills and observation, and what patience! I am in awe.
One question - is there an answer key or is Grace the answer guru?
Now I know who to go to if I have any color questions.
