In a State of Emergency...in More Ways Than One!

It is Maddy here, posting this from our home in Middlebury, Vermont. Rebecca and Grace phoned early this morning to say they have lost power due to a huge ice storm that has struck Maine. The entire state of Maine is in a State of Emergency. There are 500,000 homes in Maine and 220,000 are without power. Bob and Rebecca have a generator that is enabling their pellet stove to provide heat to their home. They are heating food on this stove. They are expected to be without power for days! Baby Jack is scheduled to arrive around noon on Monday, December 15th. What a story this will be for Jack to hear as he grows up! They will be traveling to Portland (where the hospital is) to spend tomorrow and Sunday at a hotel. We are unsure of our travel plans right now. We'll probably be leaving on Sunday. We have snow in Vermont but the travel conditions between our houses doesn't sound good. Oh my, the weather outside is frightful but they are trying to make this into a mini-adventure. We hear that Grace has been wearing a headlamp all day! Rebecca said that she was reading books from the light! Any advice for them...what would you do if you were having a baby in 2 days, have a two year old, couldn't take a shower, and were without power for days? Send them up some good thoughts.

Oh, my! New England weather always adds to the adventure... I think Bob and Rebecca have a great plan to head to a hotel tomorrow. Hopefully, one with an in-door pool for Grace to swim in and Rebecca to relax by... Our best wishes and love are with the Leger family... Safe travel to Maddy and Poppy... Can't wait to see photos of Baby Jack.
Hugs,
Donna

if anyone can turn this "state of emergency" weather into an experience that would include exploration, and an adventure to remember... that would be the ledgers. you guys are amazing.

love the headlight sweet grace is reading by.

while living in montpelier, i recall a similiar experience with the weather not being the greatest....lots of snow, ice and no electricity. i came up with the idea of setting up a tent in the living room....an indoor camping experience. we had roasted marshmellows, lots of comfort foods (cooked on the wood stove), some great story telling (my mother's favorite little stories), lots of books and plenty of games. we all slept in our sleeping bags. i must admit, my children still talk about it. it was total fun, considering it could have been a disaster.

however, i must say i like the idea of a hotel.....grace could truly enjoy a pool..we all know how much she loves the water.

rebecca and bob...my best wishes and love for the most incredible journey you are going to experience. you are a gift to all who know and love you. stay safe.
health, wealth, and happiness. may your life be abundantly blessed with your little ones and family.

maddy and poppy...safe journey to maine. like donna, can't wait to see photos of baby jack.

love, elsie

My first hope for you is that you woke up this morning to bright lights and restored electric power…. But if not I like your hotel plan very much even if it were for a day or two until Maddy and Pops can get to your home in Maine and until power is restored. In some ways it would provide peace of mind.

Now if there is “no room in the Inn” then this most certainly would be a modern day adaptation of the original Christmas story… This ”“vacation” and adventure before this new chapter of your lives begin with another precious addition to your family is certainly book worthy. I agree that it will be a fun story to share with Jack over the years. I send you all the best in the next days to come and truly do hope you can find some time to rest from the upheaval of the storm. Safe travel blessings to Maddy and Pops too.

Sending love, hugs, blessings and a chance for deep breaths and peace in the commotion. And wish you all the best with the birth of your “not so little” sweet baby Jack.

Just remember, God is still in control. As long as Jack is delivered safe and sound and Rebecca is fine....all will be okay. Just know that we are praying for you here in Delaware. Grace, we love your Christmas tree.
Love,
Aunt Melinda
