Identifying & Matching Scents

Grace & I filled containers with a variety of scents today. Each container had a match so Grace could identify matching scents according to their smell and by sight. Some of the scents in the containers included: vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, shampoo, cayenne pepper, dill, and curry. First, Grace matched the scents within the containers by sight or according to the way they looked. Then Grace closed her eyes and told me whether the two scents I presented to her were the same or different. Grace really enjoyed this matching activity and kept asking for more. Later, I pulled all of the spices from our spice rack. Grace & I named each spice and talked about how each one smelled.

Mmmmm, it sounds like a visit to the exotic countries of Asia! This brings to mind so many past experiences with Grace. She has always enjoyed using her nose to identify things, I think that it must be because you began this learning when she was a baby, Rebecca. I would have loved to hear all the adjectives that Grace used in describing the smells. They say that the sense of smell is one that says with you and will bring you back to childhood memories....Grace will have delicious ones indeed!
Love to All & Enjoy the Weekend,

You can understand why Grace loved this activity and didn't want it to end. We take our senses so much for granted, but Grace has been learning to use them in very creative, instructive, and fun ways. Kudos to you, Rebecca, for all that you do to bring the world alive and exciting for Grace.
Love, and more love,
Memere
