Grace's Color Journal
I don't think it is ever too early to start a writing ritual. Even though Grace is at the pre-writing stage, I feel as though I can help to shape her writing habits now. I believe that all children's drawings tell a story. That's the idea behind an activity we created. We call it "What color was your day?" I bought a tiny blank journal for Grace. At the end of each day we turn to the next blank page and Grace considers what color her day was. Grace then picks a color and draws away! Sometimes her lines are fast and energetic, sometimes they are faint, and sometimes they go in all different directions. I want Grace to realize that all of her marks have meaning. This is a sweet and happy ritual which Grace has really taken to. I hope Grace always reflects on the colors of her life and has her own way of documenting them. For now, her drawings say so much!

What a beautiful activity!
Much Love from Melissa =)
Oh, Rebecca this is wonderful. Grace will treasure these journals when she is older. How special for her to record her day. You are beginning Grace on a path to love writing. I know that she has lots to say and is always thinking and remembering so many things that getting it down on paper is the natural next step. I *LOVE* it! I picture the time when Grace and I can spend a few days together reading books, discussing them and then writing and sharing with each other. How thankful I am to you, Rebecca for opening up this part of life to Grace.
Enjoy the colors and the writing every day,
Full of Love,
Maddy
I forgot to mention how much I love Grace's hair! Sort of reminds me of mine when I was Grace's age except mine was so thick and curly that my Mom couldn't even get a comb through it. Grace's is soft and bouncy and beautiful. LOVE IT!!
Dear Rebecca,
I am so excited that you are making the reading-writing connection with Grace. She looks so purposeful and thoughtful... No doubt, she'll be adding letters and even words before long... She has so many stories to tell!
Does Gracie Girl know that her Maddy is an expert "hard-covered" book maker? Believe me, she has had lots of experience!
Hugs from fall like Vermont,
Donna xoxo
Rebecca, this is a great idea. What an appropriate way for Grace to express her feelings! I look forward to having Grace read it to me, if she wants. Mark away, Grace.
Love, hugs, and kisses,
Memere
How cute! I just love the idea but I equally love the curls. She looks like she is having a great time writing in her journal. We sure do enjoy seeing all your pictures.
Have a great one,
Aunt Melinda
