Today we participated in Read Across America Day, along with millions of other children across our country! We also celebrated Dr. Seuss's birthday (pictures to come soon). The pictures below show Grace, Jack and Eve reading their favorite books on this very special day.
Grace is currently reading the Little House in the Big Woods from the Little House on the Prairie book series by Laura Ingalls Wilder. Each night I see Grace's light shining under her door long after I tucked her in because she is always up late reading! Grace is such an amazing reader.
Jack's favorite book right now is The Nutcracker by Joel Meyerowitz. Jack watched the Maine State Ballet's production of The Nutcracker in November and it was truly a life changing event for him. Every since seeing that performance Jack has been dancing nonstop! Not a day goes by in our home that Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite is not playing!
Jack carries this Nutcracker book with him from room to room in our house so it is always available for him to read!
Eve loves books with babies! I often find Eve on the floor carrying on long conversations with the babies in her book! It is so sweet.
Eve's very favorite book right now is Caterpillar to Butterfly by Sally Symes. Eve loves the interactive nature of this book and the color theme. Eve's favorite spot to read her books is in this green chair. Eve carries as many books as she can hold to this chair to sit and read!
I would be most content if my children grew up to be the kind of people who think decorating consists mostly of building enough bookshelves.

Out of all the toys and children's playthings in our world, I have to say that nothing takes the place of books. Your home library is wonderful. Poppy and I are forever on the quest to find yet another great book for Eve, Jack, and Miss Grace. We went to hear Phoebe Stone give an author's talk last Monday. We were excited to have her sign 2 of her books for the kiddos!
I find the value of literature in your home with each visit. Grace now reading chapter books. Jack studies each picture and clings on to the words. And, Eve is just a little sponge, soaking in all of it.
To the incredible children who love books from their Maddy who can proudly say that I have Grandchildren who know the value and joys of reading...."my Grandchildren have never torn a page from a book because they have been read to from birth and know how powerful a book and reading is".
LOVE
Great pictures. Michaela and Madelin both love reading too. Michaela just finished reading Charlotte's web which is my favorite book of all time. We went to Barnes and Nobles the other day and we bought a bunch of new books. I just love to read too. I remember both of my parents loving to read and it is great to see that the love of reading is continuing with their great grand children. I know they are smiling down from heaven with pride. Have a great day. Love you guys,
Aunt Melinda
