It was one week ago on Monday at a playground in Middlebury, Vermont that Jack fell off the monkey bars and broke his wrist. Several doctors in Vermont recommended that Jack wear a temporary cast to stabilize his wrist until we returned back home to Maine to see a pediatric orthopedist. Yesterday afternoon Jack was fitted with a fiberglass cast, which he will wear for the next several weeks. Jack had a choice of cast colors and I was surprised when he chose green since red and blue are his favorite colors. After we left the orthopedist's office I asked Jack why he chose that color. His response was, "Mama, I chose it for you because green is your favorite color." So sweet! I admire Jack so much for his strength, courage and positive attitude throughout all of this. Jack has not expressed a single complaint about his broken wrist and he often tells me how much he is enjoying the challenge of learning how to do things with his left hand (he is right handed). What a boy!!!

I am still attempting to come to terms with our Jack breaking his wrist while here in Middlebury.
These picture are just too sweet and too cute, I must say. Jack is brave, and beautiful and courageous.

Jack is one of a kind! I don't know of another person, child or adult, who would handle this medical event half as well as Jack has. He is the poster boy for any patient, the model patient.
Jack, I am sure that you will heal well and completely because you are a strong boy. Also, we are all so impressed with how you are training yourself to use your left hand. You are ambidextrous!

Poor Jack! Falling off the monkey bars could be frightening for children, but I'm surprised Jack handled that incident well. Anyway, it's good to have a bit of adventure from time to time, but always remember that safety comes first. I hope he's feeling better. Take care!
