Our Thankful Box

One of my favorite holidays is Thanksgiving. It is very important to me to teach Grace and Jack what it means to be thankful. To help reinforce this beautiful concept we made a thankful box yesterday. To make our thankful box we wrapped a shoe box with paper that Grace and Jack finger painted. Grace added a few stickers and letters to write "Our thankful box." Every day we will write or draw something that we are thankful for. I will write something for Jack until he is able to draw and write on his own. For now Jack can either say or sign a word or I will write something down for Jack that made him smile or laugh that day!
I have blank pieces of paper located near our thankful box so that we can write what we are thankful for throughout the day. The thankful box is something that I started in order to celebrate Thanksgiving, however, we will continue with our thankful box every day after that too. One day the large shoe box will be full of the many, many, many things that we are thankful for in our lives. It will be wonderful to see how Grace and Jack's thankful wishes grow as they do!
Here is Grace finger painting a large piece of paper that we used this to wrap some of our thankful box. Grace chose all of the paint colors.
Jack chose yellow and red paint to finger paint (and eventually body paint!!) his paper. Jack's painting covers the front and inside of our thankful box.
These are the very first cards that we put into our thankful box yesterday. I'll post some more of our thankful wishes from time to time. It is important for all of us to be reminded of the great and wonderful things that we have in our lives.

"Being thankful opens us up to receiving all kinds of wonderful blessings. When in a state of gratefulness, we acknowledge our true selves & radiate this energy to others." ~ Unknown

My Dearest Mama Rebecca,
I have tears in my eyes while writing this message off to all of you. You are such a beautiful mother. All the riches in the world cannot begin to compare with children growing up in this complicated world of ours with a Mama that teaches them to be good, thankful, empathetic, loving, joyful, and caring citizens. It began in your home and then spreads into the community and further after that. I Love you, Rebecca for making me such a proud mother and grandmother in our world.

My Maddy heart just grew 10 sizes bigger to read Grace and Jack's notes.

I Love You,
Mom

Rebecca, this is one of the most precious values and practices that you and Rob can teach Grace and Jack. The impact of gratefulness in their lives and in the lives of those around them is boundless.
The energy of the world is better for each note they write, for each thank you they utter. My heart soars with love and gratitude for each of you.

XOXOXO,
Memere
