Spice Pictures!

This was a great activity that really appealed to Grace's sense of touch and smell. First, Grace chose several spices ~ cinnamon, salt, curry, coriander, dill, red pepper flakes, pizza seasoning, parsley, mustard seed, and mint. Next, Grace painted several pieces of paper with glue and then sprinkled the spices over it. Once the glue dried Grace was left with pictures that smelled wonderful and they were so visually interesting with such great colors and textures.
Grace couldn't get enough of this spice activity! She loved all of the smells and the different textures of the spices. Grace spent over an hour creating her spice pictures and she later enjoyed playing, mixing and pouring the spices. In the picture above Grace has cinnamon on her forehead. I told Grace that she smelled good enough to eat!!!

Standing!

Jack loves to stand and he is pulling up to stand on anything and everything! Jack recently discovered the kitchen set and this has quickly become a favorite play spot for Jack. This morning Jack "cooked" breakfast for all of us! Jack is now securely standing and playing while only holding on with one hand and he is standing very briefly without holding on too. Yeah, Jack!

Jack's First Haircut

The infamous spike in Jack-a-roo's hair was getting a little long so while he was eating his breakfast this morning I took out a pair of scissors and gave Jack his very first haircut! Jack then received another haircut this evening at dinnertime so I could shorten that cute little spike even more!

Memere!

picking blackberries

We so enjoyed having Memere with us for the past few days! It was such a treat for all of us. Grace and Jack loved their time with Memere. Here are just some of the special Memere memories that will always stay with us ~ going on long walks to the lake, playing at the playground, swimming at the lake beach, swinging soooooooooo high on the swings, going for bike rides with Grace, eating meals together, picking blackberries, golfing, and hammock swinging! Thank you, Memere, for all of your help these past few days and for staying with us an extra day while I recovered from my foot injury.

2 Years, 9 Months Old!

Our Amazing Grace turned 2 years, 9 months old today. It's so hard to believe Grace will be three years old in just three short months. Here are some of Grace's favorite things: learning anything and everything (!), books, reading, rhyming, nature, playing outside, playgrounds, painting, drawing, music, music group, stamping, singing, dancing, swimming, taking care of her stuffed animal friends (Ella, Key, Eliza Jane, Marmalade), phones, cooking & baking, meeting new people, the Children's Museum, numbers/counting, story time at the library, animals, getting dressed, giving haircuts, going to the lake, being silly with Jack, asking questions, family, fairs, and parades.

We love you so very much Gracie girl! You continue to amaze me with how quickly you learn and how much you know. What a kind, gentle, and sweet soul you have. Thank you for keeping us all laughing each day with you tremendous sense of humor. You always leave a lasting impression to all those who meet you! What a very, very special little girl you are.

Calendar Time

Jack loves everything about calendar time! Jack crawls over to the calendar door several times each day and kneels so he can pull the calendar pictures off of the velcro in order to examine them more closely. Jack has learned so much from calendar time. Jack identifies apples (we are using apples for our calendar numbers) and he loves all of the songs we sing about the days of the week, numbers, months, seasons, weather, etc. Jack also recognizes the American flag that I have placed on the door and it is his job to remove it from the door each morning and give it to Grace so she can say the Pledge of Allegiance. He loves to wave the flag while we sing "You're a Grand Old Flag." Calendar time is a fun way for Jack to learn so many concepts and it is something we all look forward to each morning!

Hello September

Every day Jack, Grace, and I walk to the lake together but today's walk was a little different. We noticed a hint of fall in the air today as we said goodbye to August and welcomed September. Today was the first time we were all seen wearing long sleeves, longer pants, and warmer hats on our walk. We are looking forward to all that fall will bring but until then we will continue to cherish every moment of these last few weeks of summer. These pictures of Grace were taken today and they capture just some of what we all love about being at the lake. Our favorite is swinging together on the colorful hammock swing that overlooks the sparkling lake water.

Oobleck!

Jack experienced oobleck (cornstarch and water) for the first time today and he LOVED it. Jack was amazed by the liquid and solid properties of the oobleck. By the time Jack was finished playing he was covered all the way from his head down to his toes!
