Four Season Trees

We have been talking about the end of winter and the upcoming arrival of spring over the past few weeks. Jack, Eve, Grace and I have all been enjoying more and more outdoor time and we have been delighted to discover many early signs of spring.

I thought it would be fun for my trio to make spring tree paintings to celebrate the beginning of spring next week. Jack and Grace first painted their hands and forearms brown to make a tree trunk and branches. Baby Eve painted her fingers to make her tree. They used pink poms and paint to make blossoms onto their trees. After the spring trees were made Grace asked if we could make trees for the remaining seasons too. In the picture above, Jack is making a summer tree. Needless to say, he had a GREAT time with the activity!

Jack-a-roo added a little green paint onto his face because he was pretending to be a summer tree. He always keeps us laughing!

Baby Eve did such a terrific job painting her four season trees. Eve enjoyed the feeling of the paint on her hands. Grace and Jack painted Eve's fingers and they were all so sweet working together.

Gracie girl was so excited to make her spring tree since purple and pink are currently her favorite colors. Grace added purple marker dots all over her tree because she said the blossoms were blowing off of the branches because it was a windy spring day.

Jack worked so hard to cut tiny pieces of red, orange and yellow construction paper pieces for the autumn trees.

We hung up the four season trees in our playroom today. The addition of the trees have brought about many discussions about the four seasons. They have also inspired us to listen to Vivaldi's Four Seasons all day today. I forgot to take a picture of the finished trees so I'll be sure to post it tomorrow!

Eve

Eve turned two months old last week. Bob, Grace, Jack and I are all so in love with this sweetest little one!

Our Big Day at the Children's Museum

We celebrated the remainder of Dr. Seuss's birthday and Read Across America Day last week at the Children's Museum, where Gracie girl performed Edward Lear's The Owl and the Pussycat play as part of her Teensy Weensy theater class!

Our Gracie girl has such a natural presence on the stage. We all look forward to Grace's play performances at the end of every month. We are so very proud of her!

After all of Grace's performances Jack gives Grace a bouquet of flowers. Jack look so sweet watching the play as he gently held onto the bouquet. Jack is always excited to watch Grace on stage and he is very proud to present her with flowers after each show.

Here is our baby Eve after the play performance. Eve is so super sweet -- I tell her all the time that I could just eat her up!!!! Eve was fascinated with the lights and sounds during the play and she was very happy to see her Daddy.

After Grace's play we stayed at the museum for the remainder of the afternoon. I love showing Eve everything at the museum because it is all so new and exciting to her. My time at the museum with Eve brings back so many memories of when I first brought Grace and Jack there.

Prior to the play, Jack had some time with Eve and I to play at the museum while Grace had a short dress rehearsal. Jack loves the river but his favorite display at the museum now is the ball room, where he enjoys experimenting rolling balls down various ramps and platforms...

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

We celebrated Dr. Seuss's birthday last week and participated in Read Across America Day by reading one of Dr. Seuss's greatest works -- The Cat in the Hat.

Maddy made Grace, Jack and baby Eve these AMAZING Dr. Seuss outfits to honor this day. Thank you so much Maddy for making Grace, Jack and Eve feel so special. You really made our Dr. Seuss day! I wish you could have been here to see Grace and Jack's faces light up with very big smiles when they saw the pictures on their shirts in their books. Our baby Eve was as cute as can be in her outfit too. She loved listening to Grace read The Cat in the Hat to hear Jack laugh and laugh when Thing 1 & Thing 2 came out of the box. We all love the felted green eggs that you made too. As always, thank you so much for all that you do for your grands! We love you.

Roar!

Jack really enjoyed making his March "in like a lion" face. Jack especially enjoyed using his scissors to cut small pieces of orange yarn for the lions mane. Jack sat in our art room as still as a mouse while cutting strand after strand of the yarn. Jack has such amazing fine motor skills and he has mastered the motor coordination required to use scissors.

Jack worked very hard to glue the tiny pieces of yarn onto his painted paper plate to make the lions mane.

Just like Jack, Grace has always enjoyed projects that require cutting so this was a fun project for her too!

On this day, Jack had finished his lion while Grace was at preschool. On our ride home from picking up Grace, Jack talked all about his lion so Grace couldn't wait to get home to finish hers!

Grace and Jack were so sweet to work with Eve to help her make a lion. I love the above picture of Eve. Eve always lights up with a big smile when she sees her big brother and sister.

March certainly came in like a lion in Maine and we are so hoping that it leaves like a lamb. We are all very ready for spring!

P.S. I am so happy to be back to blogging! :)

March...In Like A Lion

Grace, Jack & Eve made these lions last week on the first day of March. We talked about what the March weather saying of "In like a lion and out like a lamb" means and discussed the characteristics and behaviors of each of the two animals to explain the saying.

I have several other pictures that go along with this post showing Grace, Jack & Eve, however, I am unable to load any more pictures onto blogger. Unfortunately, I do not know how to fix this problem. I was very excited to post some pictures of Grace, Jack and Eve tonight after taking a short break from blogging because I was sick only to realize that now I can't load them. I will try again tomorrow and hopefully the problem will be resolved!

Rolling!

Take a look at our sweet Eve...she is rolling over. What a hard little worker Eve is!

On The Mend...

It has been quite the week for us. Most of the Leger family has been sick. I took Jack to the doctor this week to find out he has double ear infections and some bronchial inflammation. Jack is on antibiotics and is feeling better but he has a lingering cough and he is quite congested. Baby Eve has also been congested all week and has had a low grade fever. Bob has had a sore throat for the past few days and I had to go back to my doctor yesterday because I have another case of strep throat. Fortunately, our Gracie girl has been healthy!

I am looking forward to the week ahead with Grace, Jack and Eve. Hopefully we are all on the mend now because we are expecting some warmer weather (40+ degrees) this coming week -- temperatures in the 40s feels warm to us up here in Maine this time of year! I hope to get in lots of outside time each day. Grace and Jack have been asking to go back to Higgins Beach and I would love to take them and Baby Eve back there. I also hope to get back to posting pictures. There is a lot of catching up to do!

A Day at Higgins Beach in February

We were very fortunate to have a warm day in February. It felt as though spring was in the air that day so we headed to the beach. Our February day at Higgins was such a treasure and it was one of those very special days with my children that I will always remember.

I'll be back tomorrow with pictures of Grace, Jack and Eve. Our computer problems are behind us...hooray!

Don't forget tomorrow is Read Across America Day and Dr. Seuss's birthday!

Thursday, February 24, 2011

I have been away for a few days because I was hit with a mighty case of strep throat. My doctor said it was the worst case of strep he has ever seen. I wasn't sure what to think of that comment but in a way it was somewhat good to hear as a way to verify how truly terrible I was feeling! Thankfully, I am much better now and I was all set to post some pictures tonight but our home laptop is not working. I am posting now from Bob's work laptop that he brought home but am unable to load any pictures. I hope to be back soon!

Sweet Baby Eve's First Valentine's Day

Homemade Valentines

Gracie girl had a Valentine's Day party at her preschool last Tuesday. Grace & Jack worked together to make these heart crayons for everyone at the preschool.

Grace & Jack first chose different colored crayons and soaked them in a bowl of hot water to loosen the wrappers.

Grace spent hours carefully taking the wrapper off of each crayon. After all of the wrappers were removed Grace broke the crayons into small pieces.

Jack & Grace then placed the crayon pieces into individual silicone hearts.

We baked the crayons in the oven on 270 degrees for about ten minutes. Once the crayons cooled Grace taped the crayons onto paper hearts that said, "You color my world!"

Grace worked so hard to make these Valentines for her new friends at school and I couldn't be more proud of her!

Got Gracie, Jack & Eve?
