A Beautiful Day at Fort Williams Park

Portland Headlight Lighthouse

Ocean Air

It has been an absolutely beautiful day here in Maine.  Warm and sunny...a perfect spring day (at last)!  I took Grace, Jack and Eve to the Portland Headlight and it was such a treat for us to spend most of our day outside enjoying the fresh ocean air.  As we were eating our picnic lunch this little guy here watched us the entire time.  We all loved how he stood on this tiny little rock tower.

Sibling Love

Poor Jack had to go to emergency care today because a bungee cord snapped and ended up cutting Jack above his left eye.  Fortunately, Jack's laceration did not require any stitches and it was able to be closed using a surgical skin adhesive.  On our way to pick up Grace from school this afternoon I thought about how concerned she would be for her brother once she found out what had happened earlier today.  Grace has always been a very protective big sister to Jack and she is always looking out for him.  When Grace saw Jack for the first time after school she immediately burst into tears, wrapped her arms tightly around Jack and rested her head on his shoulder.  Grace then began to sob as she asked Jack what happened and if he was okay.  Grace kept repeating, "I'm so sorry and sad for you, Jack."  This scene was both heartbreaking and heartwarming.  As a mother it is the worst feeling in the world when your child is sick or hurt and it was also hard to watch Grace become so sad.  Yet, it was also very heartwarming...the love that Grace and Jack share is so evident.  I love the special connection that these two share!

Fun at the Children's Museum

Jack and Eve had such a great time exploring the Children's Museum's newest exhibit!

March...In Like A Lion and Out Like A Lamb (?)

"March...in like a lion and out like a lamb." Although we certainly did not leave the month of March warmer and gentler like a lamb (we had a full mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain that day), Eve enjoyed learning all about what this saying means. Eve enjoyed talking about the characteristics and behaviors of a lion and lamb and then had fun making a lion and lamb mask. Although March came in and went out like a lion we are hoping for a much, much warmer April.

Petey's 10th Birthday!

Our cat Petey turned 10 years old yesterday. Grace made Petey his very own birthday crown and Jack & Eve decorated it with lots of jewels. Although I'm not entirely certain what Petey thought about being crowned king cat for the day, he certainly did enjoy all of the extra attention and love that he received!

Read Across America Day

Jack & Eve participated in Read Across America Day on Monday, March 3!

Thing 1, Thing 2 & Thing 3!

Here are my Thing 1, Thing 2 & Thing 3 in their shirts that they made to honor Dr. Seuss earlier this month!

Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!

I'm a bit late posting this since Dr. Seuss's birthday was much earlier this month but I wanted to be sure to post these pictures before March was over...and I just made it!  To celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday and Read Across America Day we made these Thing 1, Thing 2 and Thing 3 shirts from characters in The Cat in the Hat.  Here are some pictures of Grace, Jack and Eve painting their shirts...

...and you can't celebrate Dr. Seuss's special day without having some green eggs and ham (spinach & eggs)!
