Back to the Beach!

It has been a long time coming but we are BACK AT THE BEACH!  We have had a few warmer days (finally!) and we have enjoyed spending those days at the beach.  I have several more beach day pictures to share....coming soon!

Jack's Love of Dance!

Jack has been taking dance through the Maine State Ballet since September and he LOVES it.  Jack's last dance class was yesterday.  His dance class will resume again in September.  It was a viewing day yesterday, which means that families were invited into the studio room to watch the dancers and to take pictures (or in my case, LOTS of pictures!!!).

Jack spent the first years of his life watching Grace in her dance classes and he was so excited when he was also able to enroll.  Our "big guy"  is quite the dancer!  Jack has a very natural sense of rhythm and musical awareness and he has always been able to "feel" music from a very early age.  I will be posting more pictures of Jack at his last dance class soon!

Earth Day Activity: Growing Seeds Inside of Plastic Bags!

Every week Grace brings a show-and-tell item to school to show her classmates.  This week, in honor of Earth Day, Grace planted bean seeds inside of plastic bags.  Grace first placed soil in the bottom of the plastic bags, added a bean seed to each one and sprayed them with water.  She decided to hang them from our sliding glass door where they can receive lots of sunshine.  It has been fun watching the sprouting process this week and Grace can't wait to give these Earth Day gifts to her classmates.  This is such a fun and unique way to begin a little garden!

Earth Day Activity -- Helping to Build Garden Beds

We participated in an Earth Day activity on Sunday afternoon.  We went to Grace's school to help build raised garden beds in an area that will be easily accessible to all of the students there!  Grace, Jack and Eve helped transfer soil and wood over to the garden site, fill in the garden beds and paint them.  I am so happy that our family was able to be part of this process - it was a wonderful lesson in respecting the environment and showing pride in one's school.  A perfect way to celebrate Earth Day.

Getting Ready for Daddy's Birthday

Bob's birthday was on Saturday!  We spent all day Friday getting ready for his special day.  Grace, Jack and Eve spent most of their morning making Bob lots of cards, pictures and homemade wrapping paper.  They also decorated our house with streamers and balloons to surprise and welcome the birthday boy home that evening.

We also wish Maddy a very happy, happy birthday today!  Maddy and Poppy will be coming for a visit tomorrow and we can't wait to shower Maddy with lots of birthday hugs and kisses!

The Return of the Swallows

Every year we look forward to the return of the swallows in the spring.  We first spotted our bird friends over the weekend.  For the past three years the swallows have returned every April to build their nests in a birdhouse that hangs from our front porch and another one over our front door.  We so love to stand at the window or outside on our porch to watch the swallows work together to build their mud nests.  We can't wait to hear the singing of their babies in just a few short weeks!
